Positano, Amalfi Coast, Italy - Honeymoon Pt. 2

Positano, Amalfi Coast, Italy - Honeymoon Pt. 2

Days 3-7: Positano

After saying goodbye to Capri, Michael and I took a short ferry ride over to Positano where we would spend the next four days of our trip. Positano was everything you’d imagine, plus more. Its romantic charm had us hooked from the moment we arrived. We stayed at the Hotel Villa Francaand enjoyed its boutique feel that had a very Mediterranean-esque vibe. It sits high up above the town, but still within walking distance to the beach, main restaurants and shops. Everyday, we chose to take the stairs that lead from the hotel all the way down to the beach, which made for quite the booty-burning workout but also became a fun daily routine. One afternoon we decided to forgo the beach to enjoy their incredible rooftop pool which overlooked the entire city of Positano and the Adriatic Sea.

My favorite way to explore a new city is by foot. We found so many incredible hidden shops and views by walking the streets of Positano vs. taxiing or taking the hotel shuttle. One evening, Mike proposed we walk to dinner and insisted that it would only take us twenty minutes. We arrived an hour later [insert side eyes] but the extra time it took allowed us to see the city from a different perspective, even if that meant arriving to dinner with a little sweatier than anticipated.

One of the highlights of our time in Positano was another day spent on the water. This was the second time we decided to go boating during our trip and I am so glad we did! Honestly, we probably could’ve gone out a third time. It is such a great way to see all of the coastal cities, soak in the summer sun and check out various lunch spots that are only accessible by boat. Instead of another private tour, we decided to book a small-group excursion that seated 10-12 passengers on board. Even though we thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the others, the experience itself felt like another private tour, just a fraction of the cost. We swam, visited hidden coves, stopped for a seaside lunch and had the opportunity to deboard for a short-time in the town of Amalfi. I will never forget sipping limoncello, listening to “That’s Amore” while floating along the coast of Italy. Heaven.

All along the Amalfi Coast are terraces of lemon groves climbing high up the steep and rocky clifsides. Early one morning, Michael and I took a ferry from Positano to Amalfi and toured one of the beautiful family-run lemon groves. The fresh lemon scent that filled the seaside town was glorious. We learned about the history and hardwork of these “farmers” and gained a whole new appreciation for the craft and complexity of lemons. Of course our time wouldn’t have been complete without a few samplings— raw lemons, lemon cake, lemonade, limoncello— so fresh, so delish! For those interested, this is the specific grove we visited.

Our final full day in Positano consisted of one thing: relaxation. We had heard a lot about all of the various beach clubs and decided to check out La Scogleria. This particular club was situated right on the water and offered a food/beverage service to guests. Its mix of seclusion, comfort, and location was worth the steeper price to escape crowds during Italy’s peak-season. It was the perfect way to soak up our final day before taking our last routine-trip up the stairs to our hotel.

STAY:

DO:

  • Full day boat tour - group ($) or private ($$$)

  • Amalfi Lemon Tour — Tour a lemon grove and learn about the history and hard work of the Amalfi lemon farmer. Complete with all the lemon samplings!

  • La Scogliera Beach Club

EAT & DRINK:

  • Saraceno D’Oro- Best pizza I’ve ever had in my entire life. If you visit Positano and don’t make it here, shame on you.

  • Il San Pietro di Positano- This hotel & restaurant was the definition of opulence. Probably the most delicious (and expensive) meal I’ve ever had in my entire life. We enjoyed every minute, bite, and sip, but a more cost effective option would be to go for an apertivo on their stunning terrace.

  • Franco’s Bar- A picture perfect spot for a drink. Stop by after a day at the beach or on your way to dinner. A line typically starts to form around 5pm so make sure to plan ahead if you need to make another reservation.

  • La Tagliata- Lots of homemade food for an amazing price. The restaurant is situated pretty high-up the Positano cliffside so they offer a shuttle service that will pick you up at your hotel and drop you back off after dinner— all included in your meal price.

  • Da Vincenzo- Yummy restaurant with authentic Southern Italian bites.

  • Rada Positano- Fresh seafood, modern cuisine, amazing location and view. Yummy, but probably wouldn’t return if we went back to Positano. Music on the Rocksis one of Positano’s only nightclubs which sits right underneath this restaurant.
