A weekend in Montauk, New York
We just returned home from a 48-hour jaunt out to Montauk, NY and boy did we fall in love. The primary occasion for making this trip all the way to the tip of Long Island was the surprise engagement of one of my best friends. Her fiancé-to-be invited close friends and family to join them in a celebration weekend after he made the proposal on the beach at Surf Lodge. It was magical! Even though we only got a small taste of this town, we’re already looking forward to when we can return. Below are some of the highlights.
Friday
If you’re traveling to Montauk from out-of-state, don’t underestimate why people refer to it as “the end of the world.” While the flight and 3-hour train ride were worth every moment, try and plan your stay for a long-weekend at minimum.
Surf Lodge: Whether you choose to stay overnight, stop by for a meal, peruse their in-house-boutique or check out one of their weekend concerts make sure to stop by!
Saturday
Joni’s Kitchen: A healthy, but delicious and satisfying start to the day. Don’t let the long line scare you away. The service was quick and the breakfast wraps and iced coffee we all devoured were absolutely worth the small wait.
Montauk Farmer’s Market: I’ve never enjoyed a salesman as much as the man who sold me my fabulous new beach hat in Montauk, and he almost sold me on two. A wide variety of other local-vendors and farmers that put you in the Montauk-state-of-mind.
Indy Home: For the home-decor-obsessed like myself, worth strolling through to check out their Montauk-esque assortment.
…But is it really a weekend-getaway without spending time at the beach? We chose to stay in a cute little beach-styled-bungalow at Breakers where they supply you with all of your beach essentials— chairs, towels, umbrella— making it even more accessible to spend some R&R in the sand.
Montauket: A casual place to enjoy a pre-dinner drink while watching boats come and go off the coast. Stay and enjoy live music.
Duryea’s Lobster Deck: Talk about perfect in every way possible— the food, the views, the service— everything was dreamy. A picturesque summer night we won’t ever forget. The restaurant doesn’t take reservations, so arrive a bit early to enjoy a drink, the views or both.
Love you, Nik & Kev.
