Embracing the Wild West, Jackson Hole, Wyoming
Jackson Hole, Wyoming has always been a bucket-list travel destination for my family. It’s one of those places that prompts an overwhelming positive response from people when told we were thinking of visiting, so we booked a long weekend getaway to see what all the fuss was about. *Hint, hint, the people were right.*
We chose to stay at The Rustic Creek Inn and as soon as we arrived all of the hype started to make sense. Our accommodations were the perfect balance of cozy and spacious and consisted of log cabin-like details that immediately put us in a western state-of-mind. The town of Jackson itself helped complete the quintessential Wild West dream we had been hearing so much about. The streets were made up of mom and pop stores filled with western gear and inspired decor, locally-owned and sourced cafes and restaurants, and were also lined with a variety of lodging options that fit the Jackson brand.
While you can’t miss exploring the town of Jackson, there is nothing that compares to the beautiful landscapes that make up its backdrop. If you’re only staying for a short-while, I would spend my time exploring the breathtaking mountains and national parks that surround this town.
Memorial Day weekend was a sweet-spot time of year to visit. We arrived right after ski season had died down and just before the summer crowds hit. At times it felt as if we had more of the town to ourselves, but just like any other destination hot-spot be sure to book reservations in-advance and don’t underestimate crowds when making plans.
The spring weather was pleasant, but to our surprise most of the mountain tops were still covered in snow. One afternoon we took a ride up the Aerial Tram and found ourselves in what seemed like a winter blizzard. In true Minnesotan fashion we embraced the snow and found ourselves indulging in a delicious array of waffles from Corbet’s Cabin that sits at the top of the mountain.
A trip highlight was the morning we took a guided-hike through one of the mountain trails right outside of town. We were treated to a picture-perfect day filled with sun and blue skies (and no bears!).
Though I could go on about all of the beauty this place holds, here’s a quick snapshot of what I deem to be the best-of-the-best in Jackson, WY. …And for anyone that has recommendations of their own, please leave them in the comments below. I would love to hear!
